FC Schalke 04: painted from matchday squad

After the last minute success at SV Sandhausen, FC Schalke 04 is the best mood. In the narrow promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga, the new old league leader has all the trump cards in his hand again. An experienced star of the concise was surprisingly not allowed to participate on Friday evening. Coach Mike Büskens has now explained the background.

Since Dimitrios Grammozis was stopped as the head coach of FC Schalke 04, the shares of defense routine Salif Sané have also crashed. The Senegalese was only on the pitch in two out of seven games under the direction of interim boss Mike Büskens, in total he comes to a measly six minutes of play.

On Friday it came even worse for Sané: the central defender was deleted from the matchday squad, so the trip to the Kurpfalz did not even take part.

After the final whistle in Sandhausen, Büskens founded his decision against the 31-year-old. Accordingly, Sané was temporarily sorted out because the Salif Sanéing leadership was "not satisfied" with his "training performance".

door for Sané at FC Schalke 04 not yet closed

Schalke legend admitted Büskens that the defensive man "could" have "" used "logically due to his header strength, but after the impressions, they finally decided to leave him at home".

It is questionable whether Sané will be used again for the royal blue in the two remaining league games against St. Pauli and Nuremberg. The ex-national player's working paper expires at the end of June, an extension is almost excluded.

Büskens did not want to finally close the door yet. "He can show himself again next week against St. Paul," said the 54-year-old. Sané moved from Hanover to Gelsenkirchen in 2018.
